The ship arrives at Warnemünde port at 08:00 and departs 17:00

The port of Warnemünde in Germany is still marked by the division between East and West. Interesting small eateries around the port offer a host of gastronomic treats. The Baltic Sea port city of Warnemünde still bears the traces of the division between East and West Germany, and the typical buildings of the time live alongside the modern infrastructure. The port of Warnemünde is one of the longest marinas in the continent and from here, you can find dozens of shops and restaurants that offer souvenirs and local dishes. You can also explore the lighthouse and the Warnemünde Teepot of Rostock, then visit the St. Peter’s Church, an old Gothic building built in the typical architectural style of East Germany.

Not to be missed: St. Peter’s Church, Rostock, Regional Museum of Warnemünde, Warnemünde Lighthouse

4

Day 4: Gdynia, Poland

The ship arrives at Gdynia port at 10:00 and departs at 20:00

When you arrive in the Bay of Gdansk, you come into the most fascinating regions of the Baltic Sea and of Northern Europe.
In Gydna, along the southern pier (the Poludniowe pier), you find two interesting museum ships: an imposing, three-mast frigate, the Dar Pomorza, launched in 1909 and used for many years as a school ship by the German navy; and the torpedo boat destroyer, the Blyskawica, that managed to escape a German attack in 1939.

When you come ashore from your cruise ship, outside the interesting oceanographic museum and aquarium (Muzeum Oceanograficzne i Akwarium Morskie) you will find a statue of Jozef Konrad Korzeniowski, more commonly known as Joseph Conrad, born in 1857 in Berdicev, Ukraine. As you arrive at the Bulwar Nadmorski, along the seafront with its inlets and beaches, that connects Gdynia, Sopot and Gdansk, you will find the interesting Naval Museum (Muzeum Marynarki Wojennej).

While on your cruise of Northern Europe, don’t miss an excursion to Gdansk, a city which, because of the importance of its port, has a very rich history. Visit the Old Town (Główne Miasto), along the Motlawa river, once the port centre. Here you can see a large, blue, port crane made of wood, the largest machine if its kind in Europe. Built in 1444, it was used for loading and unloading ships, as well as for fitting masts.
Leaving the river behind you, you can walk down the Royal Stretch, the road that brought kings and dignitaries into town, closed by two imposing gates, the Golden Gate and the Green Gate. Along this road you can admire the Court of King Arthur, one of the lively centres of city life. In the museum-home of Uphagen you can get a taste of the life of a wealthy Gdansk family of the 18th century. At the end of the Royal Stretch instead, you will find the gothic church of the Virgin Mary: amongst the tallest brick buildings in Europe.

Day 5: Kaipeda, Lithuania

The ship arrives at Kaipeda port at 07:00 and departs at 16:00

Klaipėda is an ancient port town in Lithuania, overlooking the dramatic Baltic Sea. Its history dates back as far as the 13th century with the town centre resembling a German medieval village. This destination offers fascinating excursions further afield. Discover the former Soviet Missile Base and the mysterious Hill of Witches.

Klaipėda is an area rich with amber, the gemstone distinguished by its mellow golden glow. On an excursion, you’ll learn about amber mining in Lithuania at a 19th-century quarry. Next, visit the Amber Museum in the resort of Palanga where you’ll gain insight into the excavation and use of beautiful 'Baltic Gold'. Afterwards, explore the seaside town’s many cafés, restaurants, and souvenir stalls, or visit the 19th-century Neo-Gothic church.

The charming port of Klaipėda is fronted by the Curonian Spit, a narrow belt of land separating the Curonian Lagoon from the Baltic Sea. This UNESCO World Heritage Site makes a splendid excursion — a fun day out for the whole family! Visit Juodkrantė, an idyllic seaside town peppered with attractive 19th-century buildings. Near the harbour, discover The Hill of Witches, an open-air gallery housing a series of sculptures depicting characters from Lithuania’s folk stories.

Take an excursion to a former Soviet missile base, located in the middle of the Plokštinė Forest in Žemaitija National Park. Having shut its doors in 1978, the site has become a dark reminder of the Cold War years. Built in 1960, the secret army base housed four storehouses with R-12 missiles pointing at Berlin, London, Madrid, and Paris! A guided tour will have you exploring the corridors, tunnels and the interior of one of the pits.

6

Day 6: Riga, Latvia

The ship arrives at Riga port at 07:00 and departs at 15:00

Riga is the largest and most cosmopolitan city of the Baltic region. See Gothic and Art Nouveau architecture, the beautiful Bastejkalns Park, and a wide assortment of shops, restaurants, and cafes.

Historical Riga – a UNESCO World Heritage Site – is an old quarter with real soul. On the excursion, you’ll discover a cluster of cobbled medieval streets, as well as characterful squares and churches.
Visit religious jewels such as St. Peter’s, St. George’s, and St. John’s churches, and the incredible Dome Cathedral. Pass by the Swedish Gate and the Rīga Castle, a superb medieval edifice. See the 14th-century Powder Tower and the impressive Town Hall Square. Wandering around Rīga’s Old Town is like stepping into an earlier era!

The Ethnographic Open Air Museum occupies an area of picturesque pine forest by the shores of Lake Jugla. Take an excursion to this remarkable institution which houses a wealth of historical Latvian buildings. Explore the houses of farmers, artisans, and fishermen which display original tools and interior furnishings. Afterwards, discover an array of churches and beautiful windmills at this extraordinary location.

Visit Sigulda Medieval Castle and the Turaida Museum Reserve on a fabulous excursion. Enjoy a tour of the 1214 Gothic Turaida Stone Castle featuring a fortification tower and a Latvian folklore sculpture park. A short distance away, discover the remains of the 13th-century Sigulda Medieval Castle, constructed by the Livonian Brothers of the Sword in 1202. Here, you’ll admire the remains of the ruins and splendid countryside views.

7

Day 7: Stockholm, Sweden

The ship arrives at Stockholm port at 09:00 and departs at 19:00

Stockholm, also known as “the Venice of the North”, is the capital of Sweden, located over 14 islands between Lake Malaren and the Baltic Sea.

The port of Stockholm is the ideal place to discover the charm and romance of one of the most beautiful cities in Sweden.
